The birth of a baby brings lots of joy and excitement in your life. But newborns have different sleep patterns and they cannot sleep whole night and you have to adjust your sleep according to them. But the good thing is that when the baby completes three months they tend to develop regular sleep patterns. But in few cases babies regularize their sleep patterns when they complete six months of their age. This is because the brain- of the baby matures after passing of a few months of birth. In case you are facing difficulty to set the sleep pattern of the baby after three months then you should follow these tips as it will help to regularize the sleep patterns.
Pinpoint when your baby is feeling tired: The baby needs sleep when he/she feels tired. Some of the common signs of tiredness in babies are yawning, fussing, rubbing of the eyes and becoming cranky. The overtired baby finds it difficult to sleep and start crying loudly so make the baby sleep without making him/her overtired. You need to stay one step ahead in case of babies sleep.
Set the timing for day and night sleep: You need to set the sleep cycle of the babies for day and night. For this, you have to make the baby awake and active in the day by involving him/her in fun activities but set two hours of sleep in the day also when the baby feels tired.
When the time of your sleep comes, become a boring parent and feed him/her in semi-dark room with no noise of any kind. This will indulge a habit to sleep in a dark room from the beginning. In this way the baby will learn that the daytime is for fun and night for sleeping.
Differentiate between eating and sleeping: Avoid the habit of the baby to sleep while taking breast milk or bottle feed. Make him/her to sleep on her/his own. Some parents have developed the habit to make the baby sleep by giving bottle milk but this is not a good habit as it may lead to choking or ear infections. When we eat more than required by the body then we can’t sleep properly in the same way the bottle gives the baby more milk than required at the time of sleeping so avoid this completely.
Feed when the baby is awake: When the baby is born the doctor told you to feed him/her after every two hours. But this is not required after two months. Only in cases when the body weight of the baby is low then you need to wake the baby to feed him/her after two hours. The baby starts demanding on her own whenever she needs milk by expressing in the form of crying. If the baby eats properly in the daytime then it does not create a need to wake up in the night for food. But always give something to eat to the baby after every four hours. This is necessary for the proper growth of the baby. In case of premature babies and special need babies, follow the diet plan as recommended by the pediatrician.
Have patience: The parents need lots of patience till the baby develops a sleep pattern according to them. In the first few months of baby birth, prepare yourself for unexpected sleep patterns of the baby. Soon you will be able to observe similar patterns of sleep in your baby like yours. So enjoy parenthood.
